Abstract

OF STUDENTS OF VOCATIONAL EDUCATION AT SCHOOL ABSTRACT: Based on the theoretical model of Jimerson & Lam (2008), this project aims to study the involvement of students of vocational schools at schools and analyse their relations with personal and contextual factors as well as the consequences and the background of the engagement (cognitive, affective and behavioral). There were made several engagement questions with the intention of understanding the relations that are established between the engagement, psychological well being and social support using three adapted instruments to the Portuguese population: EEEE, EBEPA and IPPA-R (parents, pairs and teachers). It was possible to answer all the investigation questions and the following conclusions were taken: the relationship with teachers is a predictor of engagement as well as the relation with parents is a predictor of teenagers’ psychological well being and the behavioral engagement is a predictor of school results and these affect the affective engagement. Despite some limitations to the study which are evidenced, it is believed that this study may be the impetus for further studies at a vocational school level, always trying to understand the multidimensionality of the construct.
