Abstract

Considerado como um elemento diferenciador de status social em época romana, o mosaico afirma-se enquanto “fóssil-diretor” por excelência, na deteção dos contextos históricos que acompanha no decorrer da época imperial. As convulsões político-sociais que se fazem sentir nos séculos III/ IV d.C., conduzem a uma espécie de retorno aos padrões arreigadamente clássicos que Orfeu e os poemas de Homero e Virgílio refletem eximiamente, tornando-se na expressão visual do flanco refratário que se opõe visivelmente ao avanço do cristianismo. Entre signos, símbolos e ritos, o homem da Antiguidade Tardia procura expressar o vínculo pagão a que sempre fora habituado. Numa engrenagem social totalmente imbricada no poder pessoal, o homem desta época reúne em si os valores da virtus, concórdia, paz, filosofia, misticismo e cultura; ABSTRACT: Considered as a differentiating element of social status in the Roman era, the mosaic is stated as “fossil director” par excellence, on the detection of historical contexts that came during the imperial era.
