Para um hospital amigo dos bébés

Abstract

O leite materno é o melhor alimento para o recém-nascido, dada a bio-especificidade. A Organização Mundial de Saúde recomenda a amamentação exclusiva até aos seis meses de vida e complementada até aos dois ou mais anos. A iniciativa Hospital Amigo dos Bebés consiste na implementação dos dez passos para o sucesso do aleitamento materno e diversos estudos comprovam a sua influência no prolongamento do comportamento, facto que conduz a efeitos positivos na saúde da mulher e do recém-nascido. Os profissionais de saúde têm um papel determinante no sucesso da amamentação ao fomentarem-na junto das mães e famílias. O presente relatório descreve o percurso efetuado para atingir o objetivo de "Criar condições para promover a candidatura do Hospital do Espirito Santo de Évora a Hospital Amigo dos Bebés". No diagnóstico de situação identificaram-se taxas de aleitamento materno aquém do recomendado e a necessidade de uniformizar os cuidados oferecidos. Atingiu-se a criação do Comité de Aleitamento Materno, a primeira versão da política institucional e o início da formação às equipas. Obtiveram-se ganhos no que respeita à aquisição de competências como EESMOG; conseguiram-se contributos relevantes para a instituição, tendo em conta que se iniciou o caminho para a acreditação como "Amigos dos Bebés"; ABSTRACT: Breast milk is the best food for the new born , providen by the bio-specificity. The World Health Organization recommends exclusive breastfeeding until six months of life and supplemented up two years or more. The Baby Friendly Hospital initiative is the implementation of the tem steps to successful breastfeeding and several studies have shown its influence in the extension of behavior, a fact that leads to positive effects on the health of women and newborns. Health professionals have a key role in the success of breastfeeding by stimulating it beside mothers and families. This report describes the journey performed to achieve the goal to "Create conditions to promote the candidacy of the Hospital do Espirito Santo de Évora to Baby Friendly Hospital". In the diagnosis of the situation were identified breastfeeding rates below recommended and the need to uniform the care offered. Has reached the creation of the Breastfeeding Committee, the first version of the institutional policy and the beginning of training teams . Gains were obtained with regard to the acquisition of skills as EESMOG; contributions achieved were relevant to the institution, taking into account that started the path to accreditation as a "Baby Friendly".
