Preservação e valorização da coleção de angiografias do Serviço de Cirurgia Vascular da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de Lisboa

Abstract

O presente relatório tem como objetivo apresentar os resultados do estágio curricular efetuado no Museu Nacional de História Natural e da Ciência da Universidade de Lisboa (MUHNAC), em torno do tema central “Preservação e Valorização da Coleção de Angiografias do Serviço de Cirurgia Vascular da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de Lisboa”, no âmbito do mestrado em Gestão e Valorização do Património Histórico e Cultural. Esta coleção é formada, maioritariamente, por películas de raios-X em suporte de acetato de celulose, que exibem Aortografias e Flebografias entre as décadas de 30 e 70 do século XX. Os procedimentos de conservação da coleção em estudo consistiram na identificação, organização, descrição, digitalização e acondicionamento a baixa temperatura, com vista a preservação e posterior disponibilização. A presente memória científica pretende trazer estes espécimes/objetos para a luz da História da Medicina, preparando-os para poderem ser estudados, no qual o maior desafio se prende com as necessidades de conservar estes materiais que são muito instáveis quimicamente e apresentam fraca resistência ao manuseamento. A investigação, a preservação, a valorização e a acessibilidade das coleções da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de Lisboa através do MUHNAC permite a colaboração na formação museológica e na divulgação do património para a preservação das suas coleções histórico-científicas; - Preservation and Enhancement of the Angiography Collection of the Vascular Surgery Service of the Faculty of Medicine of University of Lisbon Abstract: The current report has as objective to present the results of the curricular internship held at the National Museum of Natural History and Science of the University of Lisbon (MUHNAC), around the central theme “Preservation and Enhancement of the Angiography Collection of the Vascular Surgery Service of the Faculty of Medicine of University of Lisbon”, during the master’s degree in Management and Enhancement of Historical and Cultural Heritage. This collection is formed, mostly, by X-ray films on celulose acetate support, which exhibit Aortographies and Phlebography between the 30s and 70s of the 20th century. The conservation procedures of the collection under study consisted of identification, organization, description, digitalization and packaging at low temperature, with a view to preservation and subsequent availability. The present scientific memory intends to bring these specimens/objects to the light of History of Medicine, preparing them to be studied, in which the biggest challenge is the need to conserve these materials that are very chemically unstable and have poor handling resistance. The research, preservation, enhancement and accessibility of the collections of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisboa through MUHNAC allows the collaboration on the museological formation and in the dissemination of the heritage for the preservation of its historical-scientific collections.
