Influências das culturas popular e tradicional na ilustração brasileira contemporânea

Abstract

O presente trabalho teórico-prático tem dois objetivos: primeiro, estudar influências das culturas popular e tradicional na ilustração brasileira contemporânea e, segundo, produzir uma série de ilustrações que sugere nexos narrativos segundo o modelo de obra aberta. Especificamente, são analisadas ilustrações criadas por quatro ilustradores nacionais para livros destinados à infância e juventude, com o intuito de evidenciar intertextos vinculados às culturas popular, indígena e afro-brasileira. Após um levantamento de ilustradores com perfil de interesse, efetuou-se uma seleção tendo por critérios: vinculação ao tema investigado, atuação no segmento editorial infanto-juvenil e produção recente. Ao todo são analisadas 30 ilustrações de 13 obras criadas por Jô Oliveira, Roger Mello, Maurício Negro e Luciana Justiniani Hees. A metodologia de análise empregada consiste em cruzar informações provenientes de duas áreas. De um lado, categorias formuladas em estudos sobre o livro ilustrado contemporâneo. De outro, referências visuais presentes em publicações e acervos especializados no patrimônio material e imaterial do povo brasileiro, tais como artes visuais, celebrações, usos e costumes. O trabalho de ilustração desenvolvido expressa conhecimentos adquiridos ao longo da pesquisa e propõe as paredes do espaço expositivo como suporte facilitador de sequências de leitura diversas; ABSTRACT: This theoretical and practical work has two goals: first, to study the influences of traditional and popular culture on contemporary Brazilian illustrative media and, second, to produce a series of illustrations suggesting narrative links within the model of open work. Artwork created by four Brazilian illustrators of children's and youth books are analyzed, aiming to denote the nexus between popular, indigenous, and Afro- Brazilian cultures. An evaluation of artists with noteworthy profiles was also conducted to classify them according to the following criteria: relevance to the subject being researched, activity in children's and adolescent publishing areas, and recent works. Altogether, thirty illustrations of thirteen different books by Jô Oliveira, Roger Mello, Maurício Negro, and Luciana Justiniani Hess were analyzed. The analysis was developed by combining information from two sources. The first source were categories formulated by studies in the field of contemporaneous picture book. The second were visual references present in publications and collections specialized in tangible and intangible Brazilian heritage, such as visual arts, festivities, practices, and folk customs. Illustrations produced for this work embody the knowledge acquired from research and propose that walls inside exhibition spaces act as facilitating supports for sequences of alternative readings.
