O impacto das fontes electrónicas de informação no ensino superior em Portugal: uma contribuição para a sua análise no contexto das bibliotecas

Abstract

Este estudo descreve os padrões de uso das bibliotecas tradicionais e digitais da comunidade académica portuguesa, o valor em termos monetários da Biblioteca do Conhecimento Online (b-on), as relações entre os padrões de uso e o valor e os fatores que o influenciam. Investigou-se o valor da b-on usando o tempo economizado e o método de avaliação contingente na forma “willingness to pay” (WTP) e como o WTP é influenciado por vários fatores. Os resultados mostram que professores, investigadores e estudantes de doutoramento utilizam mais intensivamente bibliotecas digitais do que estudantes de licenciatura e mestrado. As relações benefício-custo calculadas indicam que o valor da b-on é bem valorizado em relação ao seu custo, é maior para os grupos de utilizadores que apresentam uma maior utilização destes serviços. A procura da b-on é bastante sensível ao «preço» e existe boa correlação entre a quantidade de publicações produzidas e a sua utilização; ABSTRACT: This study describes the use patterns of electronic and traditional resources in Portuguese academic libraries, the value of Biblioteca do Conhecimento Online (b-on), the relations of the use patterns with the value of b-on and the factors that influence the value for the users. We investigate the value by using the value of the time saved and the contingent valuation method in the form willingness to pay (WTP) and whether WTP is influenced by a set of factors. The results show the wide difference in use patterns, with professors, researchers and PhD students having a more intense use of digital library services than undergraduate and master students, the benefit-cost ratios computed indicate that the value of b-on is well above its costs, the valuation of b-on is higher for the user groups with higher percentage use of digital services, the demand for b-on services is quite sensitive to the «price».
