Crotona no Satyricon de Petrónio: uma distopia pitagórica

Abstract

This paper aims to demonstrate that the description of the city of Croton in Petronius’ Satyricon materializes a dystopia, that combines formal elements, recovered from the utopian model (visible in the way the characters arrive in Crotona, in the history of the city …), and narrative elements (the city's relationship with the past, the reduction of the social body to a single social type – the heredipetae, and the functioning of the society under the rule imposed by the need to obtain inheritances).
