PINTURA MURAL-2D:murais em risco no Alentejo- Degradação e Diagnóstico

Abstract

A significant part of Portuguese mural paintings in Alentejo province is in risk of being permanently lost, due to their poor condition. Urgent conservation actions are required in order to avoid this loss. Some of these paintings are now subject of examination as part of the project Pinturas Murais 2D (Mural Paintings 2D), of Hercules laboratory (Evora University). These paintings, from 12 different buildings ranging from the 16th to the 19thcentury, are being studied concerning their materials as well as their condition. This communication will mainly focus on deontological concerns raised during the study of one of them, and the significance of this artistic expression for local populations as well as for those who are responsible for their preservation.
