Influência do empreendimento de Alqueva na comunidade de carabídeos (Coleoptera: Carabidae) presentes nas áreas emergentes (ilhas)

Abstract

A destruição e fragmentação de habitat e o isolamento geográfico das diversas populações animais são alguns dos problemas que a conservação da Natureza visa solucionar nos dias que correm. Os carabídeos (Coleoptera: Carabidae) são insetos caracterizados pela sua alta diversidade de tamanho e formas, por ocuparem diversos habitats e pela sua dieta bastante variada. Na família Carabidae existem algumas espécies que apresentam um elevado grau de especificidade de uso de habitat, tornando-as excelentes indicadores de qualidade e presença de certos tipos de habitat. Com base nestas características, o presente estudo teve como objetivo verificar o impacto que a construção da barragem de Alqueva teve na comunidade de carabídeos. Os resultados obtidos demonstram a forma como a alteração da composição e conformação da paisagem levou à extinção de algumas espécies e à colonização das diferentes áreas emergentes por parte de outras espécies, de acordo com a sua morfologia e ecologia; ABSTRACT: “The influence of the Alqueva development on the carabidae community (Coleoptera: Carabidae) present in the subsequent emerging areas (islands)” The destruction and fragmentation of the habitat and geographic isolation of different animal populations are some of the problems that Nature Conservation aims to solve nowadays. Carabidae (Coleoptera: Carabidae) are insects which are characterized by the great diversity of their size and shape, by occupying different habitats and also by their greatly varied diet. Some species of the Carabidae family have a high degree of specificity regarding habitat use, making them excellent indicators of the quality and existence of certain types of habitat. Taking these characteristics into consideration, the objective of this study was to verify the impact that the construction of the Alqueva dam had on the community of carabidae living in the area. The research findings show how the change in the composition and configuration of the landscape led to the extinction of a few species and the colonization of the several emerging areas by other species, according to their morphology and ecology.
