Abstract

The menihrs of the Algarve stand,on several aspects, as an unavoidable issue in the study of the origins of the Atlantic European monumentality: in such a context, we underline the relative antiquity and the morphologic and iconographic specificities of those unmistakable monuments of the Prehistory of the Algarve. This work tries to trace the guidelines of the history of the research, since the discoveries of Estácio da Veiga, until the present, evaluating the diverse contributions, in chronological-cultural and interpretive grounds.
