Cânone literário e estereótipos femininos: casos problemáticos de escritoras portuguesas

Abstract

Centrado na teoria do cânone literário, que estabeleceu, durante séculos, modelos estéticos de “obras-primas”, dos quais, na sua maioria, quase sempre foram excluídas as obras de autoria feminina, este trabalho pretende verificar como a apreensão destes conceitos reproduz certos estereótipos, relegando as obras de mulheres portuguesas para um plano secundário. Tendo como principais pontos de apoio autores que abordam temas que envolvem a teoria do cânone, os estudos de género, a história, a psicologia, a antropologia, a sociologia, os estudos linguísticos e, principalmente, os estudos literários (já que é através desse campo interdisciplinar que se situam as referências básicas em torno do que seria o feminino), observaremos as referências ao trabalho literário de mulheres portuguesas e as causas da exclusão (ou esquecimento, ou invisibilidade) de algumas autoras do cânone. Também discutiremos o resultado de um inquérito, aplicado a professores de Literatura Portuguesa dos principais centros universitários portugueses, europeus e brasileiros, analisando a atual constituição do cânone literário na academia. A análise de tais resultados parece-nos importante, pois pode estabelecer um conjunto objetivo de dados relativos à ideologia dos formadores de opiniões; ABSTRACT: Theories of canon formation, which have, for centuries, laid down aesthetic guidelines for the designation of so-called “masterpieces”, typically have almost entirely overlooked works by women writers. This thesis aims to prove that the interiorization of these guidelines breeds certain negative stereotypes. In order to do so, I will examine of the works of representative authors who discuss issues relating to canon formation, gender studies, history, psychology, anthropology, sociology, linguistics, and, predominantly, literary analysis, since the key studies that discuss the definition of 'the feminine' come from this interdisciplinary field. This will enable me to consider references made to the literary work of female authors as well as identify the causes behind the exclusion of certain writers from the canon, or, indeed, their erasure on account of their invisibility. Additionally, I will discuss the findings of a survey, distributed to academics of lusophone literature working in major universities throughout Portugal, Europe, and Brazil, which investigates the present shape of the literary canon in the academy. The analysis of the results of this survey is important because it allows for the establishment of an objective set of data regarding the assumptions of opinion-shapers.
