Rede monástica de Évora: um percurso arquitetónico entre a cidade e o ermo

Abstract

A rede monástica de Évora é constituída por vinte e um mosteiros, de diferentes séculos, ordens e estilos de arquitectura. A sua leitura como unidade é fundamental para a compreensão da sua influência na cidade durante os anos de funcionamento das comunidades religiosas bem como para o entendimento da importância na cidade actual. Esta investigação passa pelo estudo aprofundado da rede monástica de Évora no seu contexto territorial e urbano, a evolução histórica e morfológica a par com a da cidade, dos seus mosteiros, e qual o seu papel no desenvolvimento urbano da cidade, desde as fundações até à extinção das Ordens Religiosas e actualmente. Desse modo, foram realizadas inúmeras análises comparativas confrontando os vinte e um mosteiros que constituem a rede monástica, de forma a compreender este património numa narrativa que evidencie a sua unidade. A compreensão da implantação das estruturas monásticas, as suas relações com o território, lugar e paisagem, a par com a sua concepção, história, vida, antiga e actual influência e relação com a cidade, as intervenções e novos usos, foram aspectos fundamentais para o desenvolvimento de conhecimentos e pensamentos relativos à valorização do património monástico de Évora. Através das análises efectuadas ao longo da dissertação, tornou-se fundamental evidenciar a rede e respectivas estruturas monásticas, bem como questionar o seu papel no quotidiano e no futuro eborense. Numa tentativa de contributo assente na salvaguarda, valorização, revitalização e (re)interpretação do património monástico de Évora, que visa compreender a sua relação com o território e com a cidade, é elaborada uma intervenção. Com base em linhas de pensamento e abordagens apoiadas na componente de projecto é proposta a definição de um percurso, que através de pontuais intervenções materializadas em novos espaços, permitem a leitura da rede monástica da cidade de Évora; ABSTRACT: The monastic net of Évora consists of twenty-one monasteries, from different centuries, different orders and different styles of architecture. Its analysis as a unit is fundamental for the understanding of its influence in the city during the years of functioning of the religious communities as well as for the understanding of the importance in the present city. This research is based on the study of the monastic net and the city in its territorial and urban context, the historical and morphological evolution, its monasteries, and its role in the urban development of the city, from the foundations until the extinction of Religious Orders and nowadays. Numerous comparative analyzes were made confronting the twenty one monasteries that constitute the monastic net, in order to understand this heritage in a narrative that shows its unity. The understanding of the implantation of monastic structures, their relations with territory, place and landscape, along with their conception, history, life, ancient and current influence and relation with the city, interventions and new use, were fundamental aspects for the development of knowledge and thoughts regard ng the valuation of the monastic heritage of Évora .Through the analysis carried out throughout the dissertation, it became fundamental to highlight the net formed by the monastic structures, as well as to question its role in the daily life and future of the city. In an attempt to contribute to the safeguarding, enhancement, revitalization and (re)interpretation of the monastic heritage of Évora, which aims to understand its relations with the territory and the city, an intervention is prepared.
