We present a new variational approach to analyze dispersion-managed solitons in wavelength-division- -multiplexed communication systems. Based on this approach, the periodic dispersion maps that minimize residual frequency shifts in a two-channel system can be easily determined. Comparison with results from the split- -step Fourier method ensures the accuracy of our formulation.en
