Industrie textile et développement du territoire burkinabè : cas de Faso Fani (ex VOLTEX) à Koudougou (1969 à nos jours)

Abstract

L’usine de transformation du coton en produit finis, Faso-Fani (ex VOLTEX) a été installée à Koudougou en 1969. Constituée d’une section Filature, Tissage, Teinture, Impression et de Confection, l’unité industrielle est restée pendant une trentaine d’années le moteur principal de la vie économique dans la ville. En effet, son projet de création avait occasionné l’électrification et l’approvisionnement de la ville en eau courante par l’État. En dépit de cela, le développement des activités de l’usine a dynamisé les autres activités urbaines comme l’artisanat, le commerce, le transport, etc. L’usine contribua à l’émergence d’une catégorie sociale « les travailleurs de Faso Fani » dont le mode de vie contracte avec celle des autres couches sociales de la ville. Cependant, des facteurs externes et internes à l’entreprise et la mise en oeuvre du Programme d’Ajustement Structurel (PAS) contraignirent l’usine à fermer totalement ses portes en 2001. Compte tenu de la place et du rôle considérable que l’usine a joué dans la ville de Koudougou et aussi de la dégradation de ses éléments, une meilleure conservation de cette industrie s’avère indispensable car elle constitue une partie de la mémoire de la ville. Actuellement, aucun des bâtiments de l’usine Faso Fani (14 bâtiments) n’est réutilisé. Seulement 18 des 30 bâtiments d’habitation de la Cité Fani sont convertis en logements des étudiants de l’Université Norbert Zongo; - Textile industry and development of the Burkinabe territory: the case of Faso Fani (formerly VOLTEX) in Koudougou (1969 to the present day) - Abstract : The factory for the transformation of cotton into finished products, Faso-Fani (ex VOLTEX) was installed in Koudougou in 1969. Consisting of a spinning, weaving, dyeing, printing and garment section, the industrial unit remained the main engine of economic life in the city for about thirty years. Indeed, its creation project had caused the electrification and the supply of the city with running water by the State. In spite of this, the development of the factory's activities boosted other urban activities such as handicrafts, trade, transport, etc. The factory contributed to the emergence of a social category, "the workers of Faso Fani," whose way of life contrasted with that of other social strata in the city. However, external and internal factors and the implementation of the Structural Adjustment Program (SAP) forced the factory to close its doors completely in 2001. Given the considerable role that the factory played in the city of Koudougou and the deterioration of its components, better conservation of this industry is essential, as it constitutes part of the city's memory. Currently, none of the buildings of the Faso Fani factory (14 buildings) are reused. Only 18 of the 30 residential buildings of the Cité Fani are converted into housing for students of the Norbert Zongo University.
