Abstract
This study focuses on the narrative representation of a specific form of inability to adapt to Portugal’s cultural reality in two of António Lobo Antunes’s novels: An Explanation of the Birds and O que farei quando tudo arde? The author seems to be telling the reader that life in contemporary Portugal (after 1974) implies an on-going search for identity.
