A reutilização do património industrial de Marvila. Os usos atuais e a preservação da memória do trabalho fabril

Abstract

As edificações lisboetas revelam a história do desenvolvimento da cidade, compondo uma paisagem urbana que contempla diferentes estilos arquitetónicos e significativos exemplares do património edificado. Na freguesia de Marvila, localizada na zona oriental da capital, diversos edifícios testemunham a memória de um período reconhecido por suas profundas mudanças sociais e urbanas: a industrialização portuguesa e sua consolidação no século XIX. A sociedade e seu modo de viver tornou-se mais acelerada e maquinal, e a arquitetura voltou-se para a funcionalidade, percebida pelas fábricas e suas volumetrias sóbrias construídas com materiais resistentes. Hoje em dia, a herança deste período pode ser testemunhada através da remanescência do património industrial em antigas zonas industriais da cidade, tais como Marvila. Reconhecendo a importância dos estudos voltados para a preservação deste património cultural, a presente investigação pretende averiguar o que permanece da memória do trabalho fabril na freguesia, através de uma análise tanto dos registos históricos, como dos dados atuais de edificações industriais situadas na Rua do Açúcar, eixo viário em que se instalaram as primeiras instalações fabris da zona e que atualmente estão a ser reutilizadas com novos usos. Como forma de complementar esta análise e fomentar as discussões sobre o património industrial e sua conservação, a investigação também apresenta o enquadramento histórico do desenvolvimento da zona, testemunhos por parte de quem viveu a sua industrialização e propostas de iniciativas para preservação dos vestígios industriais que ainda aí existem; Reutilization of Marvila´s industrial heritage: Current uses and what remains of factory labor - ABSTRACT: Lisbon's buildings reveal the history of the city's development, composing an urban landscape that includes different architectural styles and significant examples of heritages. In the neighborhood of Marvila, located in the eastern part of the capital, several buildings announce the memory of a period recognized for its profound social and urban changes: Portuguese industrialization and its consolidation in the 19th century. Society and its way of life became more accelerated, mechanical and architecture turned to functionality, recognized by factories and their sober volumes built with resistant materials. Today, the heritage of this period can be witnessed through the remanence of the industrial heritage in the old industrial areas of the city, such as Marvila. Recognizing the importance of studies about the preservation of this cultural heritage, the present investigation intends to investigate what remains of the memory of the factory labor in Marvila, through an analysis of both historical records and current data of industrial buildings located on Rua do Açúcar, the street which the first factories were installed in this area and which are currently being reused for new uses. As a way of complementing this analysis and promoting discussions on industrial heritage and its conservation, the research also presents the historical framework of the development of the area, testimonies from those who lived during its industrialization and proposals for initiatives to preserve the industrial heritage that remains there.
