Os painéis de azulejos nas estações ferroviárias: o caso da linha do Oeste

Abstract

A presente dissertação tem como objetivo contribuir para a compreensão do valor do património ferroviário azulejar português focando-se num estudo de caso, as estações da Linha do Oeste. Para o efeito, a dissertação desenvolve, em primeiro lugar, uma metodologia de investigação histórica, na procura da compreensão do significado histórico e artístico do azulejo, na sua relação com a arquitetura, em particular com a arquitetura das estações dos caminhos de ferro, assim como dos esforços que foram feitos para a sua preservação, quer pela por via da legislação, quer pela ação de entidades como o Museu Nacional do Azulejo e o projeto SOS Azulejo. Complementa-se a metodologia histórica com a sociológica, por meio da realização de um inquérito e da análise crítica dos seus resultados, com a finalidade de aferir o conhecimento que a amostra inquirida tem deste património e que valor patrimonial lhe atribuí. O objetivo é entender como podemos utilizar esta informação em benefício da defesa e valorização do património azulejar das estações ferroviárias. - The Tile Panels in Railway Stations: The Case of The Western Line ABSTRACT: The present dissertation aims to contribute to the understanding of the value of the Portuguese railway tile heritage focusing on a case study of the stations along the West Line. To this end, the dissertation develops, first, a historical research methodology, seeking to understand the historical and artistic significance of the tile, in relation to architecture, particularly the architecture of railway stations, as well as the efforts made for its preservation, both through legislation and through the work of institutions such as the National Tile Museum and the SOS Tile project. The historical methodology is complemented by a sociological approach, through the implementation of a survey and a critical analysis of its results, with the goal of assessing the level of knowledge the surveyed sample has about this heritage and the heritage value they attribute to it. The objective is to understand how we can use this information to benefit the protection and enhancement of the tile heritage of railway stations.
