Cidadania e parentalidade no ocidente contemporâneo

Abstract

A proposta da presente dissertação, a que demos o título de “Cidadania e parentalidade no Ocidente contemporâneo”, pretende demonstrar que o modelo de desenvolvimento económico-social e político, assente numa cidadania progressista e na partilha dos cuidados maternos e paternos para com as crianças, favorece a escolha das mulheres e dos homens na decisão de ter filhos e de constituir família. Partindo da obra de Elisabeth Badinter, nomeadamente da sua análise sobre a evolução da estrutura familiar, procuraremos reflectir sobre o estatuto das maternidades, articulando uma ética do cuidado com uma ética da justiça. Defenderemos a ideia de que a valorização da maternidade terá de acompanhar a valorização da paternidade e concertar novas propostas de organização do trabalho e da economia. No percurso da dissertação demonstraremos o contributo essencial da revolução feminista na defesa de uma condição de igualdade na dimensão sexo/género, pressuposto indispensável para a assumpção de uma ética de liberdade responsável e via ideal para a conquista da felicidade; ABSTRACT:The proposal of this dissertation under the title “Citizenship and parenting in the contemporary Western world”, aims at demonstrating that the model of economic, social and political development based on a progressive citizenship and on maternal and paternal shared care of children, empowers women’s and men’s choice when deciding to have children and raising a family. Based on the work by Elisabeth Badinter, especially on her analysis of the evolution of the family structure, we will try to reflect on the status of the several motherhoods, articulating an ethics of care with an ethics of justice. We will defend the idea that the empowerment of motherhood will have to keep pace with the enhancement of fatherhood and foster new proposals of a new organization of work and economy. In the course of the dissertation we will demonstrate the essential contribution of the feminist revolution in the defense of an equality condition of sex/gender, an indispensable prerequisite for the assumption of an ethics of responsible freedom and the ideal path for the pursuit of happiness.
