Abstract

Com base nesta análise, que demonstrou um bom desempenho do edifício enquanto invólucro protector, concluiu-se que a taipa constitui um sistema construtivo eficiente e fundamental para a sua inércia termo-higrométrica, sendo um factor determinante para a boa conservação das colecções do Museu; ABSTRACT: The Old Convent of Nossa Senhora da Assunção - the Museum of Faro's current premises - is a 16th century building made of rammed earth which doesn't have any other auxiliary systems for controlling the environmental conditions in its interior. This essay details the study of the environmental conditions inside the Museum of Faro in order to better understand in which way the building's behaviour as a protective casing affects the stability of the temperature and relative humidity levels in its rooms, and therefore how it affects the good conservation of the pieces therein. This was done by analysing and comparing temperature and relative humidity levels data from Faro and from inside the Museum's rooms in the years 2003 and 2004. This analysis demonstrated that the building is performing well as a protective casing, and therefore that rammed earth is an efficient building technique which is fundamental to the Museum's thermo hygrometric inertia, making it a determining factor in the good conservation of the collections it holds.
