Abstract

This is a comparative history text. It addresses the impacts that the reward economy had on the crowns of Castile and Portugal, particularly the weight it had on political relations. It uses a macro scale, without neglecting the impact of colonial empires on peninsular dynamics. In the first part, the analysis centres on institutions and, in the second, on social practices, without trying to oppose one to the other. However, it begins by situating the concepts in their cultural and political contexts.
