Incêndios rurais e atividades de turismo e lazer: uma comparação territorial dos impactos e dos fatores que os explicam

Abstract

A presente dissertação pretende compreender os efeitos dos grandes incêndios rurais de junho e outubro de 2017 no turismo da Região Centro de Portugal. A concretização deste objetivo exigiu uma revisão bibliográfica acerca dos efeitos dos incêndios florestais/rurais na procura turística, o que levou a admitir que a influência destes eventos na procura de determinado destino turístico depende do tipo de atração dominante desse local. Deste modo, e tomando como unidade de análise os concelhos da Região Centro, definiram-se os tipos de atrações turísticas dominantes em cada concelho, permitindo agrupá-los em quatro grupos. Procedeu-se ainda à separação entre concelhos mais afetados e menos afetados pelos incêndios, com base na extensão de área ardida entre 2002 e 2019 (com destaque para a de 2017). A oferta e procura turísticas foram caraterizadas pela evolução do número de estabelecimentos e de dormidas de nacionais e de estrangeiros. A análise demonstrou que o grupo de concelhos “Património Natural e/ou Espaços Fluviais” foi o mais afetado pelos incêndios de 2017 e que a procura nestes concelhos verificou um menor crescimento. O mercado externo foi o que verificou maior alteração no número de dormidas, indicando uma maior sensibilidade por parte da procura de turistas estrangeiros; Wildfires and Tourism and Leisure Activities: comparing impacts and drivers across territorial units Abstract: The aim of the present dissertation is to understand the effects of june and october of 2017’s wildfires on tourism in the Center Region of Portugal. To achieve this purpose a literature review about the wildfires’ effects on tourism demand was required, which led to admitting that the influence of these events on the demand for a particular tourism destination depends on the dominant attraction of that place. Therefore, and taking the Center Region’s municipalities as unit of analysis, the dominant types of tourism attractions in each municipality were defined, allowing the municipalities to be clustered into four groups. The most affected and least affected municipalities by the wildfires were segregated, based on the extent of the burned area between 2002 and 2019 (focusing on 2017). The tourism supply and demand were characterized by the evolution of the number of establishments and national and foreign overnight stays. The analysis revealed that the group “Natural Patrimony and/or Fluvial Spaces” was the most affected by the 2017 wildfires and the tourism demand in these municipalities showed less growth. The foreign market verified the greatest change in the overnight stays’ number, indicating a greater response from the demand of foreign tourists.
