Diachronic genesis of multicultural spaces surrounding ancient sceneries: San Francisco’s Convent in Évora and Jesus’s Monastery in Setúbal

Abstract

Abstract The religious houses that were established in the vicinity of existing cities, have become centers of development in these places. In 1834 a new law extinguished religious orders in Portugal and the respective patrimonial structures were left empty with large indoor and outdoor spaces that were re-functionalized. A diachronic analysis of the appropriation by the population of the areas surrounding the S. Francisco’s Convent in Évora, and the Jesus´s Monastery in Setúbal will be carried out.
