Os moinhos de água da Ribeira do Divor: a intervençao arquitectónica como salvaguarda da memória

Abstract

A presente dissertação aborda os moinhos de água enquanto espaços arquitectónicos em declínio, elementos da memória de uma sociedade, da cultura e etnografia, procurando soluções de intervenção que permitam salvaguardar estes engenhos e sua memória colectiva. O estudo de dezanove edificações que funcionaram como moinhos de rodízio e da paisagem envolvente, localizadas ao longo da Ribeira do Divor no Distrito de Évora, evidenciou o abandono destes espaços, principalmente devido à evolução tecnológica que os tornou obsoletos, mas também pela localização e condicionantes sociais do lugar onde se encontram, perdendo-se com eles quaisquer vestígios de uma actividade com importância social, cultural e económica nesta região. Pela observação das estruturas in situ e entrevistando conhecedores obteve-se um conjunto de informações que, comparadas com a informação histórica e temática recolhida e a análise crítica efectuada a projectos realizados em estruturas similares, permitem efectuar um registo destas estruturas quanto ao seu estado actual, tipologia, métodos construtivos e época de construção e apresentar soluções de intervenção arquitectónica cujo objectivo seja promover a salvaguarda dos moinhos de água; ABSTRACT: The Watermills of the Divor River: Architectonic Intervention as protection for the memoir This dissertation makes an approach to the subject of the horizontal-wheel watermills as decaying Architectonic spaces, as memories of a society, its culture and ethnography, seeking solutions for their conservation such as their collective memory. The research of nineteen buildings that once worked as horizontal wheel watermills and their surrounding landscapes, located alongside the Divor River in Évora District, became evident that these spaces were forsaken, due to technological advances that brought them to obsolescence, but also due to their location and social conditions, losing with them any traces of a previous social, cultural and economically important activity for the region. Through observation in situ and interviews, was obtained a set of information, which compared with the gathered thematic and historical information and the analysis of projects carried out on similar structures, allow to make the registration of these structures as to their current state, typology, construction methods and period, following the presentation of architectonic solutions, aiming to promote these watermills’ protection and conservation.
