Abstract

This article is a comparative study based on two journeys of disquiet to the depths of the mine and of the human, based on the analysis of Germinal (1885) by Émile Zola (1840–1902) and of The Mines of San Francisco (1946) by Fernando Namora (1919– 1989). These journeys of disquiet manifest themselves through the topography of the mine and through its ideological implications to the human as a member of a community.
