Dilatação e volvo gástrico em canídeo

Abstract

O presente relatório retrata cinco meses de estágio curricular realizado no âmbito do Mestrado Integrado em Medicina Veterinária da Universidade de Évora, tendo sido concretizado no Hospital VetOeiras, desde 5 de setembro de 2022 a 27 de janeiro de 2023. Encontra-se dividido em duas componentes: a primeira consiste numa análise estatística da casuística observada pelo autor, e a segunda numa monografia com o tema “Dilatação e Volvo Gástrico”. Esta é uma síndrome que afeta maioritariamente cães de raças grandes e gigantes, com peito profundo. Desenvolve-se de forma aguda, sendo caracterizado por uma dilatação abdominal, com desconforto associado e com elevado risco de vida. Sendo uma emergência médico-cirúrgica, a rapidez no estabelecimento de diagnóstico e instituição de terapêutica está diretamente relacionada com a sobrevivência dos animais afetados; Abstract: Gastric Dilation and Volvulus in Dog This report portrays five months of curricular internship carried out within the scope of the Integrated Master's Degree in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Évora, which took place at Hospital VetOeiras, from September 5, 2022 to January 27, 2023. It is divided into two components: the first consists of a statistical analysis of the casuistry observed by the author, and the second in a monograph under the theme “Gastric Dilation and Volvulus”. This is a syndrome that mainly affects dogs, especially large and giant breed dogs with the so-called deep chest. It develops acutely, being characterized by abdominal dilation, with associated discomfort and high mortality risk. Being an emergency, the speed with which diagnosis is reached and treatment is instituted is directly related to the survival of the affected animals.
