O Centro Histórico do Porto: a correlação entre o património e o turismo. Classificações, impactos e evoluções (Dos anos noventa à atualidade)

Abstract

Esta dissertação constitui um estudo sobre o Centro Histórico do Porto, com foco nas classificações e distinções, nacionais e internacionais, que lhe foram atribuídas, em particular a classificação atribuída pela UNESCO, como Património Cultural da Humanidade em 1996, e a distinção como Capital Europeia da Cultura, em 2001. Os impactos que ambas tiveram na evolução do turismo, assim como na salvaguarda e valorização do património cultural serão igualmente objetos de análise. A investigação propõe ainda uma avaliação no campo demográfico, social, patrimonial e arquitetónico, de forma a compreender se as alterações que o centro histórico sofreu foram benéficas ou prejudiciais para a cidade do Porto. O período abrangido pela pesquisa estende-se desde os anos noventa do século XX até à atualidade; Abstract: This dissertation is a study on the Historical Center of Oporto, focusing on both it’s national and international classifications and distinctions, particularly the classification attributed by UNESCO as World Heritage Centre in 1996, and also the remarkable distinction as European Capital of Culture in 2001. The impacts that originated the evolution of tourism, as well as on the safeguarding and valorisation of the cultural heritage in the city will be topics of analysis. This investigation also aims at establishing whether the changes that the historical centre has endured were beneficial or detrimental to the city, through the assessment of it’s demographic and social development and the impact it had on the city’s heritage and architectonic aspects. For the purpose of this research, I have taken in consideration the period of time going from the nineties of the twentieth century to the present day.
