Bem-estar animal no transporte marítimo inter-ilhas de animais vivos na Ilha do Pico da Região Autónoma dos Açores

Abstract

O presente relatório é o resultado do estágio curricular realizado nos Serviços de Desenvolvimento Agrário da Ilha do Pico, o qual foi realizado no âmbito do mestrado em Engenharia Zootécnica, da Universidade de Évora. Decorreu entre os dias 1 de março e 19 de junho de 2024. Este trabalho inicia-se com uma revisão bibliográfica do panorama da produção pecuária na Região Autónoma dos Açores, seguindo-se a temática do bem-estar animal, transportes marítimos de animais vivos e influência do transporte marítimo de animais vivos no bem-estar. Posteriormente, é feita a caracterização dos Serviços de Desenvolvimento Agrário da ilha do Pico, são descritas as atividades realizadas durante o estágio, com a descrição do processo efetuado pela brigada veterinária nas vistorias ao embarque e desembarque de animais na ilha do Pico e são apresentados os dados relativos a esse transporte com uma breve discussão do tema; - Animal welfare in inter-island maritime transport of live animals on Pico Island in the Autonomous Region of the Azores Abstract: This report is the result of the curricular internship conducted at the Agrarian Development Services of Pico Island, which was conducted within the scope of the master's degree in Zootechnical Engineering, at the University of Évora. It took place between March 1st and June 19th, 2024. This work begins with a bibliographic review of the panorama of livestock production in the Autonomous Region of the Azores, followed by the theme of animal welfare, maritime transport of live animals and the influence of this on welfare. Subsequently, the characterization of the Agrarian Development Services of the island of Pico is made, the activities carried out during the internship are described, with the description of the process carried out by the veterinary brigade in the inspections of the animals loading and unloading on the Pico island and the data related to this transport is presented with a brief discussion of the theme.
