Modernidade e comunicações: meios de transporte e território. Uma caracterização comparativa entre a Europa Ocidental e a América do Sul em corredores de infraestruturas ferroviárias

Abstract

A pesquisa explora o ambiente de confronto entre a configuração de eixos transcontinentais europeus e sul-americanos, cujas distinções articulam e rearticulam ideais de modernidade, em meio a diferentes períodos hegemônicos de difusão de tecnologias e conhecimentos, abrangendo escalas locais, regionais e internacionais ao longo de todo seu processo de articulação. Fruto da primeira revolução industrial, o sistema ferroviário de transportes representa um símbolo de modernidade do século XIX, estruturado em meio aos ideais de articulação entre oceanos e continentes, alterando drasticamente a compreensão do tamanho do globo. Um contexto que, a partir da década de 1960, demonstraria novas transformações, reflexo da hegemonia do modelo rodoviário de transportes, em contraste ao progressivo abandono de obsoletas estruturas logísticas do período anterior, impulsionando uma nova dinâmica global. Contexto em que o Patrimônio da Mobilidade emergiria em meio aos projetos de reestruturação, evidenciando tanto a paisagem urbana, anteriormente consolidada, quanto os personagens responsáveis pela dispersão dos ideais de mobilidade/modernidade, valorizando, dessa maneira, o conjunto de elementos estruturadores dos históricos corredores logísticos internacionais, buscando amenizar a brusca ruptura de ciclos anteriores, em prol da nova dinâmica mundial; Modernity and Communications: Ways of Transport and territory. A Comparative Characterization between Western Europe and South America in Railways Infrastructure Corridors - ABSTRACT: The research explores the environment of confrontation between the configuration of European and South American transcontinental axes. Distinctions between them combine and reshape ideals of modernity, in the midst of different hegemonic periods of diffusion of technologies and knowledge, covering local, regional and international scales during the process. Reflection of the first industrial revolution, the railroad transport system represents a 19th century symbol of modernity, structured amidst the ideals of connection between oceans and continents, drastically changing the understanding of the size of the globe. From the 1960s onwards, this context demonstrated new transformations, reflecting the hegemony of the road transport model, in contrast to the progressive abandonment of obsolete logistics structures from the previous period, boosting a new global dynamic. In this situation, the Mobility Heritage was going to emerge amidst the restructuring projects, showing both the previously consolidated urban landscape and the characters responsible for the dispersion of mobility/modernity ideals. Thus, it valued the set of structuring elements of the historic international logistics corridors, seeking to alleviate the sudden rupture of previous cycles, in favor of the new global dynamics.
