Arte, complexidade e caos

Abstract

Nesta tese parte-se dos novos paradigmas da complexidade e do caos, oriundos da ciência, para entrever novas perspectivas na arte. São abordados alguns dos seguintes tópicos e suas relações com a arte e a actividade artística; caos, fractais, autómatos celulares, cibernética, vida artificial, bioarte. Depois da perda de algumas certezas estabelecidas na ciência, ao longo do século XX, houve uma mudança na maneira de olhar para o mundo que também se manifesta na arte. A arte, com as suas metodologias próprias, pode ser uma ferramenta importante para a exploração de novos territórios do conhecimento. Sendo vasta e diversificada, assim como as suas práticas, partilha com a ciência parte do processo criativo, na realização plena do ser humano. A vida e a sua evolução constituem uma grande metáfora para a nova ciência da complexidade. O homem como ser auto-consciente e agente criador, ele próprio um sistema complexo, acaba por ser a medida das coisas em arte e ciência. ABSTRACT; This thesis starts from the new paradigms of complexity and chaos, which arise in science, to reveal new perspectives in art. Some of the following topics and its relations with art and artistic activity are analysed; chaos, fractals, cellular automata, cybernetics, artificial life, bioart. After the fall of established certainties in science, in the XX century, there was a change in the way we see the world and which manifests itself in art. Art can also be an important tool to explore new knowledge areas. It is vast and diversified however shares with science part of the creative process, in the fulfilment of human being. Life and its evolution is the metaphor to the new science of complexity. Man as self-consciousness and creative agent, himself a complex system, is the measure of things in art and science.
