A herdade da Contenda. Uma paisagem única como paisagem de referência

Abstract

A Convenção Europeia da Paisagem reconhece a importância do conceito de paisagem, nomeadamente, em termos ambientais e sociais (paisagem como resultado da acção do ser humano sobre o ambiente) e chama a atenção para a importância da ligação que é estabelecida entre as pessoas e a paisagem e para se perceber que paisagens são mais importantes para essa ligação. As novas formas de investigação permitem compreender que a história e a identidade de cada paisagem são fundamentais para compreender a ligação das pessoas à paisagem, ligação que se vai construindo ao longo de gerações, como que em camadas sucessivas de interacção entre o Homem e a Natureza, e que se reflectem naquilo que a paisagem é e na forma como a paisagem é considerada, no presente. Entre todas as paisagens do nosso quotidiano é importante identificar as paisagens de referência, que ilustram essa construção ao longo de gerações e que permitem que se compreenda claramente o papel da paisagem na nossa identidade, de forma a manter e reforçar essa ligação à paisagem. Com a elaboração deste trabalho pretende-se contar a História da Herdade da Contenda. Desta forma, espera-se contribuir para perceber a paisagem de hoje, tendo em conta a evolução da relação entre a comunidade humana e aquele território e, por fim, avaliar se a paisagem da Contenda, pelas suas características actuais, que resultam em grande parte dessa história e, também, pela própria história, pode ser considerada uma paisagem de referência no Alentejo. Dos casos analisados, da bibliogafia e da Contenda, tiraram-se ilacções sobre o que podem ser paisagens de referência para a região do Alentejo e que critérios nos podem ajudar a identificá-las. Do acabado de referir advém a necessidade de encontrar novos objectivos e modelos de gestão, mais orientados para o suporte de bens públicos e saber que cuidados se devem tomar para fundamentar a gestão futura desta paisagem e a sua valorização; ### ABSTRACT: The Contenda Estate. A Unique Scenery as a Reference Landscape. The Landscape European Convention acknowledges the importance of the landscape concept, namely, in environmental and social fields (assuming that landscape is a result of the human presence and action in the environment) and enhances the importance of the interelation between people and landscape and the value of perceive witch landscapes are most important to that interelations. The new forms of research that allow us to understand how history and identity of each landscape are the key to understand the connection of people to the landscape, which is being built over generations, like as successive layers of interaction between man and nature, wich reflect what the landscape actually is and how the is considered in the present. Among all the landscapes of our everyday lives is important to identify the reference landscapes that illustrate this construction over generations and allow a clear understanding of the role of landscape in our identity, in order to maintain and strengthen the connection to the landscape. This work aims to tell the history of the Herdade da Contenda. Thus, it is expected to contribute to realizing the landscape today, taking into account the evolution of the relationship between the human community and that territory, and finally, to assess whether the landscape of Contenta,with its current features, which result in large part of this story, and also by history itself, can be considered a reference landscape in Alentejo. Among the various study cases analised, the bibliography and Contenda, it’s possible to get information about what can be considered reference landscapes in Alentejo region and what criteria can help us to identify them. This research helps the prosecution of new objectives and management models, oriented to the maintenance of public goods and services and to the knowledge of management that enhance and sustain the value of landscape.
