Convento de São Paulo da Serra d´Ossa. Do percurso da água à criação do espaço de banhos

Abstract

Em plena Serra D’Ossa, o Convento de São Paulo preserva a memória de um lugar que outrora fora habitado pelos monges eremitas da ordem de São Paulo, o primeiro eremita. A estrutura hidráulica do seu convento testemunha a forma como estes homens se relacionavam com o território, utilizando o seu engenho na captação e encaminhamento das águas, para as mais variadas tarefas do seu quotidiano, garantindo assim a autossuficiência do eremitério. Com a extinção das ordens religiosas e com a adaptação do Convento de São Paulo para hotel museu, a rede de abastecimento de água veio substituir o abastecimento de água proveniente das minas subterrâneas e consequentemente tornar todo o sistema hidráulico, “desenhado” pelos eremitas, obsoleto. Esta ação promoveu a descaracterização de toda a sua estrutura, constituída por tanques, caleiras e fontes, evidenciando uma problemática inerente à preservação do património hidráulico. Numa tentativa de valorização e salvaguarda do património em questão, pretende- -se contribuir para o estudo e análise da estrutura hidráulica do Convento de São Paulo, assim como desenvolver uma proposta de intervenção que consiste no redesenho e reativação do percurso da água, dando-lhe uma nova função: a de abastecer os novos espaços de banhos propostos para o Hotel Convento de São Paulo; ABSTRACT: Convent of São Paulo of Serra D’Ossa.From the water course to the creation of bathing spaces In the middle of Serra D’Ossa, the Convent of São Paulo preserves the memory of a place that was once inhabited by hermit monks of the order of Saint Paul, the first hermit. The hydraulic structure of its convent testifies to the way in which these men interacted with the territory, using their ingenuity to capture and direct water, for the most varied tasks of their daily lives, thus guaranteeing the self-sufficiency of the hermitage. With the extinction of religious orders and the adaptation of the Convent of São Paulo to a museum hotel, the water supply network replaced the water supply from underground mines and consequently made the entire hydraulic system, “designed” by the hermits, obsolete. This action promoted the de-characterization of its entire structure, consisting of tanks, gutters and fountains, highlightingissues related to the preservation of the hydraulic heritage. In an attempt to preserve and safeguard the heritage in question, it is intended to contribute to the study and analysis of the hydraulic structure of the Convent of São Paulo, as well as to develop an intervention proposal that consists of the redesign and reactivation of the water route, giving it a new function: to supply the new bathing spaces proposed for the Hotel Convent de São Paulo.
