Sítio arqueológico do Mascarro: um modelo para o povoamento antigo no concelho de Castelo de Vide

Abstract

Este trabalho destina-se à investigação e interpretação dos vestígios arqueológicos existentes no Monte do Mascarro, concelho de Castelo de Vide, território do Norte Alentejo. Este sítio compreende um conjunto de estruturas de caráter funcional, que as escavações arqueológicas efetuadas na década de 80 revelaram como parte de um lagar e de uma oficina metalúrgica. Estas estruturas foram sempre compreendidas como correspondentes à pars rustica de uma villa romana e demonstram uma continuidade ocupacional do sítio de cronologia romana e tardia, ou seja, de meados do século III d.C. até ao século V d.C. Apesar de limitações ao nível da área conhecida, este estudo tem como objetivo aprofundar o conhecimento deste sítio, reconhecer elementos novos e perceber as cronologias de ocupação que ocorreram no Mascarro, bem como tentar contextualizar estes vestígios num povoamento rural no atual concelho de Castelo de Vide e no antigo território da civitas de Ammaia; Archaeological Site Mascarro - A model for the old settlement in the municipality of Castelo de Vide Keywords: Roman rural settlement, Mascarro, agrarian structures Abstract: This work is intended for research and interpretation of existing archaeological remains on Mount Mascarro, county of Castelo de Vide, territory of Northern Alentejo. This site comprises a set of functional character structures, the archaeological excavations carried out in the 80s revealed as part of a mill and a forge.
