Clínica de animais de companhia

Abstract

Este estágio curricular foi realizado no Hospital Veterinário Principal, na Charneca da Caparica, distrito de Setúbal, de outubro de 2013 a março de 2014, sob a orientação da Dr.ª Cristina Alves. O relatório aqui apresentado divide-se em duas partes. Na primeira faz-se a descrição da casuística assistida, fazendo-se uma breve descrição dos procedimentos sempre que se tornar relevante. Na segunda parte desenvolve-se o tema “diabetes mellitus felina” com um enquadramento teórico sobre a fisiologia do pâncreas endócrino, dando especial ênfase à regulação da secreção e ação da insulina. Desenvolve-se, em seguida, uma revisão bibliográfica acerca da fisiopatologia da doença em felinos, complicações agudas e crónicas da doença, apresentação clínica, diagnóstico, tratamento, acompanhamento dos pacientes, complicações da insulinoterapia, e prognóstico. Por fim, faz-se uma apresentação de um caso clínico de diabetes mellitus num gato, referenciado de um outro centro de atendimento veterinário, que foi acompanhado durante o estágio; ABSTRACT: Small Animal Medicine The internship was conducted at the Principal Veterinary Hospital at Charneca da Caparica, in the district of Setúbal, from October 2013 to March 2014, under the supervision of Dr.ª Cristina Alves. This report is divided in two parts. The first part consists of a statistical analysis of the cases observed during the internship, with a small description of the procedures whenever it is relevant. The second part is the development of the theme “Feline Diabetes Mellitus” with a theoretical framework about physiology of the endocrine pancreas, with special emphasis on the regulation of the secretion and action of insulin. Afterward there is a review of the physiopathology of the disease in cats, acute and chronic complications, clinical presentation, diagnosis, treatment, follow-ups, complications of insulin therapy, and prognosis. At last, a case of diabetes mellitus in a cat referred from another veterinary hospital and followed during the internship is presented.
