Flow comparison of grafts with different sizes in bypass of an artery

Abstract

In this study, CFD is used to investigate the flow characteristics in arteries with different degrees of stenosis. Numerical simulations of blood flow through bypass models of different sizes are also performed. These will improve understanding of bypass flows, in order to prevent recirculation, flow separation and backward flow. The influence of bypass geometry and artery (host)-graft diameter ratio is investigated. The flow resistance decreases as this ratio increases. It is also observed that, as the degree of stenosis increases, flow resistance increases.
