Representação do livro e da biblioteca na literatura infantojuvenil: a saga Harry Potter de J. K. Rowling

Abstract

A saga Harry Potter de J. K. Rowling tem apaixonado gerações de leitores ao longo dos anos. Com milhões de livros vendidos em todo o mundo, as histórias deste mundo mágico são um fenómeno literário que clama por atenção a quem se interessa pelo estudo da literatura infantojuvenil. Neste trabalho partimos de uma análise temática dos livros de Rowling. Analisamos a representação dos livros, das bibliotecas, dos bibliotecários e das personagens leitoras em Harry Potter com o intuito de compreender a imagem que a literatura infantojuvenil transmite destes temas. Estas representações fictícias e fantásticas revelam-se, ao longo da saga, elogiosas e bastante próximas do mundo real. Apenas a representação da bibliotecária acaba por ser negativa, provavelmente influenciada por ideias preconcebidas e clichés, o que revela a importância de dar atenção ao tema; Abstract: Representation of books and libraries in children's literature: the saga Harry Potter of J. K. Rowling - J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter saga has enamored generations of readers over the years. With millions of books sold worldwide, the stories of this magical world are a literary phenomenon that cries out for attention to those interested in the study of children's and youth literature. In this work we start from a thematic analysis of Rowling's books. We have studied the representation of books, libraries, librarians, and the reading characters in Harry Potter in order to understand the image that children's literature conveys about these themes. These fictional and fantastic representations reveal themselves, throughout the saga, to be flattering and quite close to the real world. Only the representation of the librarian ends up being negative, probably influenced by preconceived ideas and clichés, which reveals the importance of paying attention to the topic.
