Abstract

Numa cidade onde se encontram duas incidências termais distintas, vê uma delas erguer-se de no meio de um terreno baldio transformando-se numa grande e luxuosa estância termal, equivalente aos seus congéneres europeus. O conhecimento relativo à sua origem e desenvolvimento nos primeiros 50 anos desde a sua descoberta, levam-nos a uma perceção do valor patrimonial e paisagístico que recebemos de herança do passado. Desenvolvimento esse que não se limitou à estância termal, mas que se estendeu ao redor, com todo o núcleo urbano que se ergueu e que complementou, por parte de privados, o que esta estância não tinha forma de providenciar. Após profunda análise, procura esta dissertação dar a conhecer a história, o património arquitetónico e paisagístico local acompanhando a sua evolução desde uma simples barraca de madeira até ao complexo termal de 14 hectares que ainda hoje se encontra erguido no local; Abstract: Curia - Architecture for thermae In a city where there are two different thermal springs meet, a thermal complex emerged from a vacant lot, which has been transformed into a large, luxurious spa, on par with its European counterparts. The knowledge of its origins and development over the first 50 years gives us an idea of the heritage and landscape value that we have inherited from the past. This development was not limited to the spa, but extended to the surrounding area, with an entire urban center that was built and that complemented, provided by private individuals, what the spa was unable to service. After in-depth analysis, this dissertation seeks to reveal the history, architectural heritage and landscape, following its evolution from a simple wooden hut to the 14-hectare spa complex that still stands on the site today.
