Questionário de atitudes face à matemática (QAFM): desenvolvimento, construção e estudo psicométrico com crianças e jovens do 2º e 3º ciclos do ensino básico português

Abstract

A matemática é considerada uma das disciplinas fundamentais do currículo escolar. Contudo, é assombrada pelo elevado insucesso dos alunos nos diferentes anos de escolaridade. Na tentativa de explicar este baixo rendimento académico, as investigações apontam para uma relação entre a dimensão afectiva do indivíduo (crenças, atitudes e emoções) e os processos de ensino-aprendizagem da matemática (Núñez et al., 2005). O objectivo central deste estudo é, primeiro, desenvolver um instrumento de avaliação das atitudes face à matemática para crianças e jovens do 2.º e 3.º Ciclos do Ensino Básico Português, segundo, estudar a relação entre as atitudes face à matemática e variáveis pessoais (sexo e grupo etário) e nível escolar. Neste estudo participaram 307 alunos do 2.º e 3.º Ciclos do Ensino Básico de uma Escola de Évora. A partir do estudo psicométrico é possível concluir que o Questionário de Atitudes Face à Matemática (QAFM) apresenta características psicométricas bastante aceitáveis e, por isso, promissoras para fazer face ao diagnóstico das atitudes face à matemática; ABSTRACT:Mathematics is considered one of the most crucial subjects of the school curriculum. However, is haunted by the high failure rates of students from different school years. In attempting to explain this low academic results, investigations point to a relationship between affective dimensions (beliefs, attitudes and emotions) and teaching-learning processes (Nuñez et al., 2005). The aim of this study is, first, develop a tool for assessing the attitudes toward mathematics to children and young students from Basic Education in Portugal, second, analyse the relationship between attitudes toward mathematics and personal (gender and age) and academic variables. In this study participated 307 students from Basic Education of a school from Évora. Through the psychometric study is possible conclude that Attitudes Toward Mathematics Questionnaire (ATMQ) has quite acceptable psychometric properties and, therefore, promissing for diagnosis of attitudes toward mathematics.
