Abstract

Abstract: Objective: To analyze the indicators of the patient classification system, in the period 2014-2017, as a safe means of dimensioning nursing. Method: Descriptive, exploratory study with a quantitative approach, the sample was 303,214 patient classifications. Results: Hours of Care Needed per Day of Hospitalization increased from 5.06 to 5.14, corresponding to 0.07 more related to: care complexity, dependency levels, age and associated pathologies. Values of Hours of Care Provided per Day of Hospitalization increased from 4.74 to 5.01, corresponding to an additional 0.27. In Medicine, the most scored areas of care: movement, medication and eating/drinking; in Surgeries: medication, movement and elimination; and in the Department of Women and Children: vital signs/other assessments, support activities and health education. Final considerations: Health professionals need to rethink practices and leaders need to adopt new models of care management.
