A cidade em jogo

Abstract

O trabalho pretende refletir sobre o papel do espaço público aberto da cidade. Partimos do conceito de cidade como um subsistema do sistema paisagem, e de espaço público aberto como um subsistema do sistema cidade, não categorizados hierarquicamente mas sim, como partes de um todo dinâmico e em constante transformação. A forma como o espaço público aberto evolui, desde o início das primeiras civilizações, está intimamente ligada ao sentido comunitário das mesmas, nele podemos observar o reflexo de uma determinada cultura, hábitos e tradições. Apesar de este espaço potenciar uma série de atividades próprias da cidade como as partilhas, as trocas e as relações interpessoais e sociais, existe também um aspeto, de carácter mais espontâneo, que se desenvolve no mesmo. O lúdico, enquanto atividade exclusivamente não produtiva, de carácter recreativo e associado à diversão, é uma das possíveis experiências do espaço público aberto de uma cidade. As vivências que este espaço possibilita, pelo facto de pertencer a toda gente e a ninguém em simultâneo, conferem-lhe um carácter singular, quase recreativo e ingénuo perante a austeridade da função específica que os edifícios em seu redor acarretam. No campo do lúdico existem diversas atividades como o jogo, o brincar, o caminhar ou o estar, que se caracterizam pela sua função catártica ou de sublimação, contrastando com a célere especificidade funcional do quotidiano urbano-contemporâneo. A presente dissertação pretende relacionar arquitetura, paisagem e saúde no espaço público aberto da cidade, nomeadamente nos atos dinâmicos de apropriação do espaço público; desde o caminhar até ao parkour; e compreender de que forma o espaço público aberto influi na qualidade de vida dos seus utilizadores.

ABSTRACT: Work title: “THE CITY IN PLAY” The work intends to explore the role of the outdoor public space in the city. We start from the concept of the city as a subsystem of the landscape system and the public space as the subsystem of the city system, not hierarchically categorized, but as parts of a dynamic, and in constant transformation, whole. The way in which the public space evolves, from the beginning of civilizations, is intimately linked to the sense of community in its inhabitants, in which we can observe the reflection of a certain culture, habits and traditions. Although this space has a series of activities such as sharing, inter-personal and social relationships, there is also an aspect, of a more spontaneous nature, that develops in it. The ludic, as an unproductive activity, recreational and associated with fun, is one of the possible activities in the public open space of a city. The experiences that this space enables, while being a space that belongs to nobody and to everybody simultaneously, give it a singular, almost recreational and naive character contrasting with the austerity of the monofuntional and productive buildings around it. In the field of play there are various activities such as play, play, walking or being, which are characterized by their cathartic or sublimation function, in contrast to the functional specificity of everyday urban-contemporary. The present dissertation tries to relate architecture, landscape and health in the public space of the city, more specifically, in the dynamic acts of appropriation of the public space; from the walk to parkour; and understand how public space influences the quality of life of its users.
