Abstract

The contribution of the biomechanics to improvement the sports performance, in Track and Field Development and Validation of a Dedicated Inertial Measurement Unit The technical reports of biomechanical analysis, in Track and Field, have find to solved complex questions about the athlete’s technical performance. When we searched scientific studies with highly training athletes and with the defined criterions, we verified few developed scientific works. The methods are limit to kinematics analysis and implement several instruments, where the velocity parameter was the focus of the study. Thus, this study aimed to develop, to validity and to apply an instrument, and evaluated the elite athletes, in Track and Field. It was developed an inertial measurement unit, through algorithms obtained acceleration directly, and it determined the remaining kinematic and kinetic parameters. In the criterion validity, between the developed instrument and the proposed golden standards, in countermovement jump, the flight time, the jump height, the vertical force amplitude, and the vertical acceleration amplitude were valid parameters. As well, it allowed us to obtain a similar signal with a force platform identifying the different phases of the jump. In the 40m sprint test, the temporal partials and the step time demonstrated criterion validity. In the application of the inertial measurement unit were develop several theoretical models of multiple linear regression. In the countermovement jump, the jump height, the vertical force and velocity, and the force in the eccentric phase were predictive variables to root mean square of the vertical acceleration. In the 40m sprint test, the jump height had a high explanation in the 0-10m partial, and the acceleration obtained in the mediolateral, vertical, and anteroposterior directions explained the remaining temporal partials, 10-20m, 20-30m and 30-40m. The study indicates the inertial measurement units as an instrument to apply in the systematic evaluation and monitoring of the elite athletes, of the Track and Field, by the low-cost prices, easy application and portability, continuous data, in real-time and with results valid.
