Luxação medial da patela em cães

Abstract

O presente relatório surge na sequência do estágio curricular do Mestrado Integrado em Medicina Veterinária, realizado na VetOeiras – Hospital Veterinário, de três de Setembro a 31 de Dezembro de 2019. A primeira parte descreve de forma sucinta a casuística acompanhada e as atividades realizadas ao longo dos quatro meses de estágio. A segunda parte consiste numa monografia sobre o tema “Luxação medial da patela em cães”, seguida da descrição dum caso clínico acompanhado no estágio. A luxação medial da patela é uma das afeções ortopédicas mais comuns em cães. É diagnosticada por associação dos sinais clínicos e exame ortopédico. Existem quatro graus de luxação cada um associado a diferentes alterações anatómicas subjacentes, sinais clínicos, tratamento e prognóstico. O tratamento é geralmente cirúrgico e assenta no realinhamento do mecanismo do músculo quadricípede femoral e estabilização da patela no sulco troclear; Abstract: (Medial Patellar Luxation in Dogs) The present report emerge from the intership of the master’s degree in veterinary medicine of Universidade de Évora, performed at VetOeiras – Veterinary Hospital, from third September until 31𝑠𝑡 December of 2018. The first part briefly describes the cases accompanied and the developed activities during the four months of internship. The second part consists in a monography about “Medial patellar luxation in dogs”, followed of a case report accompanied during the internship. Medial patellar luxation is on of the most common orthopaedic condition in dogs. Diagnosis is based on clinical presentation and orthopaedic exam. The are four grades of luxation each one associated with different underlying skeletal deformities, clinical presentation, treatment and prognosis. The treatment is usually surgical and it is based on realignment of the quadriceps mechanism muscle and stabilisation of the patella within the trochlear groove.
