A emigração clandestina na Europa nos anos 1960: o caso do Baixo Alentejo

Abstract

A Emigração faz parte da história nacional. Durante longas décadas, Portugal foi considerado um povo de emigrantes. Todavia, uma análise da História nacional permite-nos depreender, que o ciclo emigratório foi sofrendo alterações, concretamente no que diz respeito ao destino escolhido pelos milhares de portugueses, que, por vicissitudes várias resolveram num dado momento das suas vidas, abandonar o nosso país. A data de 1960 marca o início de uma nova fase do processo emigratório. Este fenómeno começa a apresentar novos contornos. A Europa, em detrimento da América, passa a ser o destino escolhido. Contudo, dos milhares de habitantes que saíram do nosso país, muitos fizeram-no de forma ilegal. Numerosos foram aqueles que na ânsia de uma vida melhor, se aventuraram em atravessar as fronteiras de forma ilegal, ou salto, expressão muito utilizada na época para descrever a emigração clandestina. No Baixo Alentejo, a emigração clandestina foi o recurso para muitos. As terras fronteiriças como Vila Verde de Ficalho foram a porta de saída para muitos emigrantes clandestinos. Nesta dissertação, pretenderemos então reconstruir algumas redes de migração clandestinas que atuaram no Baixo Alentejo, na década de 60 do século passado; ABSTRACT: Emigration is part of national history. For long decades, Portuguese people were considered a people of emigrants. However, an analysis of National history allows us to infer that the migratory cycle was suffering alterations, specifically regarding the destination chosen by thousands of Portuguese, who, due to several vicissitudes decided, at some point in their lives, to abandon our country. The date of 1960 marks the beginning of a new phase of the emigration process. This phenomenon starts then to present new shapes. Europe, instead of America, becomes the chosen destination. Nevertheless, the thousands of people who left our country, many did so illegally. There were many who in their eagerness for a better life, venture to cross the borders illegally, or jump, expression much used at the time to describe illegal emigration. In Baixo Alentejo, illegal emigration was a resource for many. The borderlands as Vila Verde de Ficalho, were the gateway for many illegal immigrants. In this dissertation will then describe the profile of illegal immigration networks that operated in Baixo Alentejo, in the 60’s of last century.
