Implementação de políticas de indexação e metodologia para construção de tesauros : estudo de caso sobre o Arquivo Municipal de Lisboa

Abstract

É indiscutível a importância da ¡indexação nos atuais sistemas de informação. Se, até há pouco tempo, ela constituía parte integrante da cadeia documental dos sistemas bibliotecários, tem vindo a ser introduzida gradualmente noutra disciplina, a Arquivística. É igualmente reconhecida a importância da indexação para a qualidade da recuperação da informação. Para garantir a sua eficácia, consistência e coerência, é necessário que as organizações reconheçam a importância das políticas de indexação, que reúnem um conjunto de diretrizes, seguidas por quem indexa, para além de definirem a linguagem documental, o instrumento chave de qualquer sistema de indexação. Analisam-se as principais características das políticas de indexação. Os fatores que as condicionam, e os elementos que as constituem, pretendendo evidenciarem a sua importância como parte integrante da estratégia organizacional. Apresenta-se ainda o tesauro como a linguagem documental que melhor representa fundos documentais de bibliotecas especializadas ou de arquivos, âmbito deste estudo, e propõe-se uma metodologia para a sua construção. Efetua-se, por fim, um estudo de caso sobre o Arquivo Municipal de Lisboa, demonstrando como pode ser implementada uma política de indexação num sistema com estas características. ABSTRACT: The importance of indexing in the current systems of information is unquestionable. If, until a short time ago, it constituted integrant part of the documentary chain of the librarian systems, it has been introduced gradually on the Archives Administration. It is equally recognized the importance of indexation for the quality of the information retrieval. To guarantee its efficiency. consistency and coherence, it is necessary that the organizations recognize the importance of indexing policy, which join a set of directives, followed by who indexes, besides defining the documentary language, the key instrument of any system of indexation. The main characteristics of indexing policy, the factors that stipulate them, and the elements that constitute them, are analyzed intending to evidence its importance as an integrant part of the organizational strategy. Thesaurus is also introduced as the documentary language that better represents fonds of specialized libraries or of archives, extent of this study, and a methodology ls also proposed for its construction. Finally, a case study on Lisbon Municipality archives is made, demonstrating how indexing policy can be implemented in a system with these characteristics.
