Identidade da arquitetura vernácula timorense: o caso de Baucau

Abstract

As habitações tradicionais timorenses são constituídas por materiais e técnicas construtivas transmitidas ao longo das gerações. Nos tempos atuais, essas habitações encontram-se em transformação, sendo os materiais tradicionais substituídos por materiais industrializados, gerando uma perda de características e identidade tradicionais. A mudança é da responsabilidade dos próprios residentes que procuram suprir as suas necessidades atuais. Com esta investigação pretende-se conhecer melhor as construções vernáculas timorenses e salvaguardar a sua identidade em processo de adaptação contemporânea. Procedeu-se ao estudo das habitações vernáculas ancestrais permitindo identificar o que caracteriza a identidade da arquitetura vernácula de Timor. Realizou-se também uma análise das caraterísticas das habitações vernáculas atualmente existentes, através de um estudo de doze construções localizadas nos sucos do Município de Baucau. Assim, foi possível compreender as condições de habitabilidade e os materiais e técnicas utilizados, com o objetivo de, e utilizando um caso de estudo específico, apresentar uma proposta arquitetónica de adaptação e ampliação, procurando contribuir para a manutenção da identidade, valorização, reconhecimento e afirmação da identidade Arquitetura Vernácula Timorense; - Identity of Timorese Vernacular Architecture, the case of Baucau - ABSTRACT: Traditional Timorese houses are made up of materials and construction techniques handed down through the generations. Nowadays, these dwellings are undergoing changes, with traditional materials being replaced by industrialized materials, leading to a loss of traditional characteristics and identity. This change is the responsibility of the residence themselves, who are trying to meet their current needs. The aim of this research is to gain a better understanding of Timorese vernacular buildings and safeguard their identity in processes of contemporary adaptation. The study of ancestral vernacular dwellings allowed us to identify what characterizes the identity of Timor´s vernacular architecture. An analysis of the characteristics of the vernacular dwellings that exist today, was also carried out, through a study of twelve buildings located in the sucos of Baucau Municipality. In this way, it was possible to understand the living conditions and the materials and techniques used, with the main aim of, using a specific case study, presenting an architectural proposal, for adaptive reuse and expansion, seeking to contribute to maintaining the identity, valorization, recognition and affirmation of Timorese Vernacular Architecture.
