Abstract

Bioterrorism corresponds to the deliberate release of microorganisms, with the aim of causing illness or death in people, animals or plants. The territorial management is essential in characterizing the risks associated with this act. This essay aims to characterize bioterrorism in terms of the agents' mode of action and to draw up a set of recommendations for preparing societies for this type of crime. A literature review is adopted. It is concluded that bioterrorism currently represents a real risk to public health worldwide and that the best defense is the existence of a strong public health system, international cooperation and determination of the nature and consequences of exposure from the media to threatening and frightening events.
