Mediação da depressão na relação entre variáveis sociodemográficas e a satisfação com a vida

Abstract

A investigação teve como objetivo estudar os benefícios das universidades seniores nos adultos mais velhos. Analisou-se o efeito mediador da satisfação com a vida (SV) na depressão, em função do preditor grupo e com as variáveis de controlo: idade, sexo, estado civil e religiosidade. Pretendeu-se examinar eventuais diferenças na depressão e SV nos dois grupos: um frequentava uma Universidade Sénior e programas de envelhecimento ativo e o outro não. Aplicaram-se o Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE), a Escala de Depressão Geriátrica: Versão Reduzida e a Escala de Satisfação com a Vida. No LISREL realizaram-se os testes das estruturas fatoriais das provas e do modelo de mediação. Observou-se que participantes que frequentam universidade e programas possuíram maior SV. O mesmo foi observado para participantes com 80 ou mais anos, para participantes do sexo masculino e participantes casados ou unidos(as) de facto;Benefits of senior universities for older adults in terms of life satisfaction and depression Abstract: The research aimed to study the senior universities' benefits for older adults. It analysed the mediating effect of life satisfaction (LS) on depression according to the group predictor and the control variables: age, gender, marital status, and religiosity. The aim was to examine possible differences in depression and LS in the two groups: one attended a Senior University and active ageing programmes, and the other did not. The Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE), the Geriatric Depression Scale: Reduced Version and the Satisfaction with Life Scale were applied. The test's factor structures and the mediation model were tested in LISREL. It observed that participants attending university and programmes had higher LS. It watched the same for participants aged 80 or over, male participants and married or non-marital partnership participants.
