Mestre João Silva um projecto, um museu

Abstract

Esta dissertação enquadra-se no I Curso de Mestrado em Museologia da Universidade de Évora, com a direcção do Professor Doutor João Brigola. Tem como tema a Casa-Museu Mestre João da Silva, sita em Lisboa na Rua Tenente Cascais, ao Rato, sendo Orientador o Professor Doutor Arquitecto Sérgio Infante. Foi no actual espaço da Casa-Museu que o artista trabalhou e viveu nas últimas três décadas de vida, tendo decidido em 1952, com a sua esposa, que no mesmo constituir-se-ia de futuro um museu da sua obra. Começamos por apresentar uma biografia do escultor João da Silva (1880-1960) que, apesar de ter vivido largos períodos em Genebra e Paris, manteve sempre um papel activo na arte e na sociedade portuguesas. A evolução do conceito geral de Museu e o enquadramento específico das Casas-Museu são também abordados neste trabalho, onde apresentamos ainda alguns exemplos de espaços museológicos dedicados a artistas em Portugal. A evolução histórica e arquitectónica do edifício e da zona da cidade onde o mesmo está localizado são aspectos que não quisemos deixar de aprofundar, antes de terminarmos esta apresentação com uma pequena viagem pela simbologia presente quer no interior quer no jardim da Casa-Museu e, por fim com um convite a conhecê-lo. /*** Abstract - This essay fits in the First Master Course in Museology of the University of Évora, directed by Dr. João Brigola. Its issue is the House-Museum of João da Silva that is located at Rua Tenente Cascais, in Lisbon, nearby Rato. The supervisor of this essay is Professor Doctor Architect Sérgio Infante. It was in the House-Museum, presently occupying this space, that the artist João da Silva lived the last three decades of his life having decided in 1952, with his wife, that a future museum with his work should be created there. We begin this essay with a biography of the sculptor João da Silva (1880-1960) who has always played an important role in the Portuguesa society although he has been living for large periods of time in Geneva and Paris. The general evolution of the concept of a Museum and the specific fitting of the House-Museums are further approached in this essay, where we present also some examples of museologic areas dedicated to several artists in Portugal. The historical and architectural evolution of the building and the area of the city where it is located are also aspects to which study we decided to deepen before ending this work, with a small trip either through the interior, either through the garden of the House-Museum and, finally, with an invitation to become acquainted with it.
