O síndroma de Burnout nos centros de saúde da sub-região de Évora

Abstract

Verificou-se que na Sub-Região de Saúde de Évora o absentismo dos funcionários atingia valores consideráveis. Uma das razões evocadas pela literatura, para tal fenómeno, era o síndroma de burnout (efeito incapacitante de uma exposição prolongada a condições de stresse no trabalho). Com este estudo pretendeu-se investigar se existia uma relação entre o absentismo e uma maior prevalência das dimensões que caracterizam o burnout, através de um questionário, que incluía uma versão traduzida e adaptada do Maslach Bumout Inventory — Human Seruices Survey, instrumento amplamente utilizado em estudos sobre a avaliação do burnout, aplicado a médicos, enfermeiros, administrativos e auxiliares, durante o mês de Outubro de 2001, que pertenciam aos quadros dos Centros de Saúde, da Sub-Região de Saúde de Évora, e que tinham contacto directo com os utentes dos serviços. Da análise global constatou-se uma baixa prevalência das dimensões que caracterizam o burnout e uma relação entre o absentismo e uma maior prevalência dessas dimensões. /*** Summary - It was verified at the Sub-Região de Saúde de Évora that the employees' absenteeism reached considerable values. One of the reasons evoked by the literature for such phenomenon was the burnout syndrome (unableing effect of a lingering exhibition to stress conditions at work). This study intended to investigate if a relationship between the absenteeism and a larger prevalence of the dimensions that characterize the burnout existed. A questionnaire that included a translated and adapted version of Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Services Survey, instrument thoroughly used in studies about the evaluation of burnout, was applied, during October 2001, to medical doctors, nurses, administrative and auxiliary employees, that belonged to the staff of the Centros de Saúde, of the Sub-Região de Saúde, and had direct contact with the customers of the services. On a global analysis a low prevalence of the dimensions that characterize the burnout and a relationship between the absenteeism and a larger prevalence of those dimensions was verified.
