A Gestão Económica da Água na Agricultura: Perspectivas de Utilização no Alentejo

Abstract

This article presents the mains issues of management water and future perspectives for irrigation use in Alentejo. The growth water consumption has been taking to increase the competition for the resource and the need to promote its sustainable use. The water management policies has been reorienting in search of new alternative sources of water and from the offer to the demand side. The future perspectives of water irrigation use in Alentejo are dependent from the New CAP and from the DQA. Within agricultural markets more and more competitive and with the crescent water cost, the farmers will must abandons the traditional irrigation crops like cereals and oilseeds or will makes new investments in fruits, legumes and industrial crops.
