O cinema de animação oriental e a guerra: uma proposta artística no contexto português da Primeira Guerra Mundial

Abstract

Este relatório de trabalho de projeto é uma pesquisa artística teórico-prática, que busca investigar o modo como o tema da guerra é abordado no cinema de animação oriental contemporâneo. Ao longo desta pesquisa, é explorada a relação que as culturas orientais têm com o tema da guerra recorrendo, sobretudo, à análise das obras de realizadores como Mori Masaki (Japão, 1941) e Isao Takahata (Japão, 1935 – 2018). Este estudo inspira e serve de suporte conceptual para a minha própria prática artística, uma curta-metragem em coprodução com Daniela Alvarinho (Portugal, 1997), com o formato de uma curta de animação 2D inspirada no livro “Em Memória de Ti, Em Memória de Nós”, (Portugal, 2015) da escritora Adelina Piteira (Portugal, 1959). Este livro, trata das consequências da Primeira Guerra Mundial (1914-18) na vida de um soldado português chamado Duarte. O nosso filme divide-se entre acontecimentos que decorrem no presente do pós-guerra intercalados com as memórias do passado na Primeira Grande Guerra; Oriental animation cinema and war: An artistic proposal in the portuguese context of the First World War. Abstract: This project work report is a theoretical and practical artistic research, which aims to investigate the way the theme of war is approached in contemporary oriental animation cinema. Throughout this research, the relationship that oriental cultures have with the theme of war is explored resorting, mainly, to the analysis of the works of directors such as Mori Masaki (Japan, 1941) and Isao Takahata (Japan, 1935 - 2018). This study inspires and serves as conceptual support for my own artistic practice, a short film in co-production with Daniela Alvarinho (Portugal, 1998), with the format of a 2D animation short inspired by the book "Em Memória de Ti, Em Memória de Nós", (Portugal, 2015) by the writer Adelina Piteira (Portugal, 1959). This book, deals with the consequences of the First World War (1914-18) in the life of a Portuguese soldier named Duarte. Our film is divided between events taking place in the post-war present interspersed with memories in the First World War.
